We spent a chunk of Wednesday, Thursday, and today sprucing up our kitchen. It wasn’t “bad” before. It just wasn’t us. The cutesy wallpaper and yellow paint to match the counters just made me feel kind of icky inside. Our friends Cindy and Andrea stopped in to help out. We couldn’t have gotten it done so quickly without their help. Thanks! So here are a couple of before pics.

This is the color scheme that I pretty much haphazardly decided on the day before we started painting. That’s just how I roll.

Here’s one during the wallpaper removal process. Mikey “helped” Cindy. And no, I’m not wearing white granny panties up higher than my waistband. That’s just how white my flesh is. I wish I could tell you that it were granny panties. Anyway…

Today Phillip and I (mostly Phillip) refinished the drawer and cabinet pulls to match the light fixtures that are already in our kitchen. Before they were a lovely gold. After they are kind of a dark bronze. This is exciting stuff right here.

And here is the finished kitchen/dining room. It’s finished but we still need curtains and other accessories. That room through the kitchen is my office. It’s the same yellow that the dining room was before. It looks like it’s some awful green in this picture. It’s just the light. That room will get a new coat of paint soon.

We’re really happy with how it turned out. I’m envisioning a big dark red framed mirror on the wall in the dining room and maybe some kind of dark red curtains of some sort. In the next couple of years we hope to pulverize the 1950’s yellow tile and replace it with granite or quartz. Some people may prefer the before pictures and not understand why we changed it. And if that’s the case then I’m sure you can find some quaint wallpaper with flowers on it at Lowe’s that will make your heart skip a beat. The previous yellow is called “sunbeam.”

We’re repainting the kitchen and it’s almost done. The fridge is out of place and it keeps weirding me out. I’m behind on editing and I have to catch up TODAY! That has to happen today. We went to bed at 1:00 last night and the boys spend the night with Phillip’s parents. I thought I would sleep pretty late but I woke up shortly after 8:00. I’m thinking about going back to bed for a little while even thought I probably shouldn’t. My camera equipment stuff has been heavily on my mind lately because I’m considering selling off my Canon stuff and switching to Nikon but I’m just not sure yet. When we get the tax credit from the house I’ll have to make a decision and stick to it for years. I think red accent stuff will look good in the kitchen and now I’m wishing that I ‘d gotten the red canisters like I wanted to instead of listening to Phillip and getting the black ones. Why did he have to have an opinion about canisters anyway. My mom is supposed to come home today. I wish I could bring her some ice cream from Dairy Bar but I don’t know if she’s supposed to have ice cream or not. But she’s not supposed to have anything at all from a restaurant for like six weeks so I guess ice cream from Dairy Bar would be out anyway. Maybe I’ll just get some for myself and not tell her about it. I need to get busy either editing or going back to bed.

I took these photos last night of two little boys who never seem as ready to go to bed as we are ready for them to go to bed. And as long as some of the days lately have seemed, I know one day I’ll look back at these photos and wish it were today again. By the way, you might be able to tell in one of these that Mikey was pinching Jackson’s back with his right hand. Little stinky worm.

My mom’s new liver July 22, 2010

This post will be quick because I don’t have a lot of time right now. On Tuesday evening while I was photographing a family at the beach (without my phone in my pocket), my mom got a call that they had a liver for her and that she needed to get to the hospital ASAP. They called about 7:00 and wanted her in the OR at 9:00. Thankfully she got Phillip on the phone and he was able to run her up there. I didn’t find this stuff out until about 8:00 or so. Anyway, I raced to the hospital and got there just before they took her back to get started. The surgery went great! And my mom is making excellent progress. They are talking about possibly releasing her as soon as Saturday! That’s just amazing to me! My mom is a liver transplant rock star! Maybe I’ll get her a shirt made. Well, I gotta go back up the Med Center. Please continue to pray for mom and her recovery. God is good!

What if I yell too much…??

What if they don’t remember me the way I want them to…??

What if I do too much damage…??

What if I don’t show them enough how much I love them…??

What if we grow apart and we can’t find our way back…??

What if they resent me…??

What if I expect too much…??

What if they don’t feel “good enough”…??

What if I’m missing the point…??

What if I blow it…??

I tortured my kids earlier by making them take a few pictures for me. You would think that it causes them physical pain the way they both behave when I try to photograph them. It’s ridiculous. But I got a few that show off just how pretty they are. And a few to show just how rascally they are. Jackson earned $6 for his quasi cooperation. Mikey earned ten cents.

So this morning I got to use our new house for pictures! I’m so excited to be able to do this. We never had the room or the natural light at the other house. So here are a few pictures of the bare bones portable set up that we have at this time.

And here’s one that Phillip took of me photographing little Tyler. I hope you enjoy looking at my armpit.

And here is the finished shot that I was taking at that moment.

Pretty cool, huh? You can see more of Tyler’s newborn photos at my business blog.
